FEATHERLIFTThe Weekend Face Lift Finally there is wonderful technique that allows us to treat areas of the face that have been very difficult to rejuvenate in the past. Almost all of us notice that the earliest changes to the face seem to involve the “mid face” area with essentially a falling down of the youthful cheek position. As this occurs there is increasing prominence of the fold running from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth (nasolabial fold). Additionally there is a tendency for the corners of the mouth to start to look a bit down turned and heavy. As this progresses deeper, new lines begin to develop down from the corners of the mouth (so-called marionette lines). For many years we have struggled to achieve improvement of these areas often by injecting or implanting filler agents, laser treatments, and various skin treatments. All of these techniques helped but were unable to really correct the problem. The Featherlift offers a rapid, safe, and extraordinary ability to immediate and dramatically rejuvenate these regions. The technique involves the virtually painless insertion of several fine threads (Aptos threads) into the fatty tissue to lift and re-support the mid face and cheek structures. The material is a surgical suture known as Prolene that we use constantly in all forms of surgery and is recognized as being completely safe and non-reactive. The brilliance of the Aptos threads is that it takes the fine Prolene suture and then laser cuts mini tabs or notches along the suture. This allows the thread to “grasp” the fatty tissue it is inserted into and to hold it in position. Conceptually this becomes the “under wire wonder bra” of the midface. Over a period of several months there is stabilization and gentle tissue support along the threads making this a permanent support. The Featherlift is usually performed with local anesthesia and take about 15 minutes. There is minimal discomfort and no pain at all afterwards. In most cases there is little or no bruising and minimal swelling. Makeup can be applied 24 hrs latter and one is socially presentable in 1-2 days. There are no incisions, only a few tiny needle marks at the site of insertion that rapidly disappear. The threads cannot be seen or felt. The Featherlift can also be used to perform a brow lift at the sides of the eyes as well as reducing the jowls at the jaw line for the appropriate individual. We are excited and pleased with being able to offer a minimally invasive technique that corrects these very challenging areas effectively, safely and with virtually no recovery needed. This is truly a weekend facelift!
