Botox around the mouth
Posted in General on November 2, 2010
Botox around the mouth for smoker's lines. Yes, we do it. ...and yes it is tricky. One must be precise and use very little Botox. We reserve this treatment for those that have overly strong muscles around the mouth that causes pursing of the lips. We start with a very little amount and move up to a higher dose if needed. The look is excellent- the lips "bloom" in a way, because the "purse string" effect is gone.
Note that too much Botox definitely can cause "loose lips", making it difficult to get a good seal when drinking (see this funny story). Luckily that feeling is usually limited to the first two weeks of treatment if it is just a little too much Botox. We start conservatively. But Botox is often the best way to treat some patient's lips.
So what's the big deal if you drool- at least your lips look great (just a little joke)!
Sincerely,

How do you make a determination which would be best for a given patient? - K. Day
Answer:
We need to look at the brow position and determine if it is a muscle action, laxity, or both that are contributing to a low brow.
If it is muscle action, then Botox or Dysport are best; if it is laxity, skin tightening would address the problem better
