Holiday Hearing, ‘Tis the Season to Listen
Posted in Hearing on December 8, 2009
By far this is the busiest time of the year for Audiology. So many families coming and going it is easiest to see when we miss conversations that count. It is also the season where we evaluate our selves for those so called "New Year's Resolutions" and many find that understanding others is becoming a challenge.
Our office has offered trials of hearing aids without cost to patients for many years. I am happy to sit with any of you wondering where you are in your needs, and make a communication plan together. We are contracted with most insurances, so the testing required to see if "needed" is not included in our free trials.
But what if you have hearing aids??? There is much more to listening than "hearing"...and although hearing aids are the best way to ensure that something can be heard, it is only through the brains' processing that listening occurs. We offer a comprehensive self-study auditory rehabilitation for those whom hearing aids are not enough. It also works very well for those not yet ready for hearing aids. It focuses on training the brain to use what is heard to understand. It can be done on DVD or on your computer...and will provide skills that will ensure best use of your hearing.
Please let me know what myths I can lay to rest, or topics you would like to learn more about.
Fondly,
Michelle
