Lidocaine Toxicity
Posted in Cosmetic Services on April 26, 2010
I just read about a fatality that occurred at Sono Bello: http://www.king5.com/internal?st=print&id=84058282&path=/news/local
Lidocaine toxicity is always on my mind when I perform tumescent liposuction. The safety of true tumescent liposuction lies in the dosage. It is with great sadness that I hear of Aura's death from lidocaine toxicity. I have performed thousands of cases of liposuction over 13 years and have never had a case of lidocaine toxicity. I have never heard of an unpredictable reaction to the anesthetic, except in allergic circumstances. Aura's blood levels of lidocaine must have been very high for the coroner determine that that was the cause of death.
Sincerely,
Julie Voss, MD
