Melanoma and tips on tanning
Posted in Dermatology on February 6, 2012
If I can play in the sun in the beach in Mexico (wearing my rash guard, sunglasses, big hat, and sunscreen) and without burning, then you can too.
- You increase your chance of Melanoma by 75% if you use tanning beds before the age of 30.
- Melanoma is the most common form of cancer in white women ages 15 - 29.
- Melanoma rates have risen by 50% in that same age group since the 1980s, which coincides with the proliferation of the tanning industry.
- The UVA radiation emitted by tanning beds can be as much as 10 to 15 times more powerful than midday sun.
- Tanning prior to going on a sunny vacation is a serious mistake.
