My take on Zerona

If you're looking into trimming away fat there is a lot of marketing for various procedures out there. Today I will look into the science behind Zerona and will try to explain it in lay language.

Zerona purports to use lasers to punch holes into fat cells so they 'bleed off' some lipid that is stored inside them. This lipid (liquid fat) is then redistributed by your body to other parts, and the fat cells remain as before.

In my opinion, if I am getting a procedure, I would prefer it be as permanent as possible. With Zerona, it seems like it only would be a matter of weeks before the fat cell has regenerated any lipid, leaving you right back where you started. I also find it a bit repulsive to dump lipid (and all the stored fat soluble toxins) into the blood supply for redistribution. I am a fan of procedures that take the fat cell whole (its lipid, its DNA, its toxins), which is why I like the Tumescent liposuction technique I have performed for many years. In Tumescent Liposuction the fat cells as well as the toxins they harbor are permanently gone.

Sincerely,

Julie E. Voss, MD
