RadioFrequency Devices for Skin Treatments

RFD (RadioFrequency Devices) use radiofrequency as the energy source to safely heat the deeper layers of the skin in order to stimulate existing collagen to promote new collagen growth.

NWFace offers  Aluma and Thermage treatments - both use RF technology.  There are some differences in how the devices are engineered - Aluma using "bipolar RF" and Thermage using "monopolar capactive RF" (refer to any handy physicist for a more detailed explanation).

More important for the patient to understand is that Aluma also uses light suction to pinch the skin between the electrodes (which can increase the potential for bruising); Thermage does not use suction.  Thermage is a single treatment were as Aluma requires 4-5 treatments to achieve maximum results.
Both treatments modalities use RF that passes through the superficial layer of the skin, into the deeper layers, stimulating existing collagen to promote new collagen.  The end result produces improvement in skin quality: better skin tone, as well as smoother and tighter skin.

Risk are usually associated with an unskilled provider or one with insufficient understanding of RF energies.  This can lead to blistering of the skin or skin irregularities.  Some residual, but mild heat, redness, or swelling may also occur.  RF treatments are contraindicated in patients who have pacemakers or other electrical pacing devices.

Sincerely,

Stella Herrera, RN
