Training your auditory system
Posted in General on March 25, 2010
Today I want to review a topic I've covered before: the ability to train our auditory (listening) systems. The LACE is a home study program that we have offered for over a year now. I wonder how many feel it is only for those who wear hearing aids. Of course those with damage to this area to the point that hearing aids are recommended show tremendous improvements in speech understanding in noise with auditory training, but those who are not yet ready for hearing aids also show significant improvements in their abilities to hear in challenging environments.
Here is what Neurotone--the developer of the LACE program has found in their research of both populations:
"The latest results are in. We've crunched the most recent training data for tens of thousands of LACE users. On average, those who complete 10 sessions of LACE enjoy 33% greater speech-in-noise intelligibility. Those who complete 20 sessions enjoy 43% greater speech-in-noise intelligibility."
I've spoken about the ability of humans to learn echolocation in an attempt to surprise all into how trainable our brain is. This program will help anyone who struggles in noise, not just those who use hearing aids. It is a great program and only costs $200.00 to own.
