Botox

Because of habits of expression or sometimes due to poor eyesight, headaches, etc., some people develop deep frown lines, forehead lines or crowsfeet. Unfortunately, this can make them look tired - or even angry. When the muscles on your forehead and around your eyes are relaxed, your skin can smooth out.

The muscles around the eyes and forehead are attached to the underside of the skin. Every time you frown or squint, these muscles contract and pull your skin into a wrinkle. Over time, these wrinkles become deeper, and are eventually permanently etched into your skin. Botox® is a serum that temporarily relaxes the muscles into which it is injected. Botox® is an excellent way to prevent frown and squint lines from becoming permanent wrinkles for patients who do not already have lines etched into the skin. In many patients of less than 60 years, most squint and frown lines are reversible with Botox®. For patients with already deeply engraved lines, Botox® can help improve or prevent worsening of the lines, although wrinkle reduction may require additional filling (Collagen, Fat Transfer, AlloDerm, Softform) or a CO2 laser resurfacing.

Main advantages of Botox®:

  • Non-surgical
  • Quick procedure
  • Little to no recovery time

How is Botox® performed?

Dr. Voss will inject tiny amounts of Botox® into the specific small facial muscles that need to be relaxed. The procedure takes just a few minutes. You feel only Minor and brief discomfort during these injections and there is no recovery time. Botox® takes three to seven days to take effect. Just ask the front desk for a consultation form and you can be treated now.

Who is a candidate for Botox®?

If you wear bangs to cover your forehead lines; if you now consider your smile lines crowsfeet; if people ask "what’s the matter – you’re frowning" (and you’re not aware of it), then you are a good candidate for Botox®. Areas between the eyebrows, the forehead, and crowsfeet can be successfully treated, causing improvement or disappearance of lines. Lines that are not caused by the muscles pulling on the skin do not respond to Botox® injections. These wrinkles are the result of sun damaged skin, and can be improved with Collagen Injections, Laser Resurfacing, or with Fat Transfer.

Does Botox® give permanent results?

Botox® is not permanent, but lasts three to six months. When it starts to wear off, you will notice a return of your wrinkles. Frequently the returning wrinkles are not as deep. After repeated injections, the effect may last longer.

What parts of the face does Botox® effect?

We do not use Botox® for these areas. While relaxing the muscles will eliminate the wrinkles, it would also change your smile and facial expressions. Laser Resurfacing, Fat Transfer, AlloDerm, or Collagen Injections can improve these wrinkles.

What are possible side effects?

There have been no serious side effects associated with this material at the dosages we employ. Botox® has been used in a safe and effective manner at a much higher dosage for patients with neuromuscular disorders for approximately 15 years, even in children. The only side effects we haveve seen have been transient Miner bruising or a lowering of the eyebrows where injection was requested directly above the eyebrow.
