Aging of our skin

As time marches on, our facial skin begins to reflect the years as well as the response to the ravages of sun exposure, poor nutrition, health, and tobacco use. With time, creases deepen in the mouth, forehead areas, between the eyes, and around the lateral portion of the eyes. A lifetime of exposure to the sun, pollution, stress, alcohol, and smoke, all weaken the skin’s natural support structure.

The laser solution

Today, using advanced laser technology, the physicians at Northwest Face are able to smooth the effects of aging. This significant break through in laser technology has been studied and used by the Northwest physicians for the last several years. The therapy is a very gentle laser resurfacing of superficial skin. The imperfections and old ravaged skin surface is removed, allowing a re-growth of smooth and fresher new skin.

Solutions to facial wrinkles

The laser skin resurfacing can remove or reduce wrinkles and fine lines around the eye and mouth area. The laser treatment softens deep “laugh lines” and “frown lines.” There is also an associated repair to sun damaged skin and softening of the changes associated with scaring. Outwardly, the signs of aging are diminished and the tone and overall texture of the skin is revitalized, revealing a fresher, more youthful appearance.

How it works

The basic concept of skin rejuvenation is that of being able to “reset the clock” of skin aging. By stripping away all the outer damaged layers of skin this then allows for re-growth of far healthier and in fact younger skin. There is a dramatic restoration of the collagen support of the deep structures allowing for the tightening affect and the remarkable reduction of lines and laxity. This technique creates truly younger skin with often the virtual elimination of damaged areas that are often pre cancerous. A skin biopsy taken before and after would demonstrate the rather dramatic improvement. The Redness one experiences after the procedure is the process of re-growth and maturation of the new and healthy skin layer.

Are you a candidate for laser skin resurfacing?

The physicians at Northwest Face will consider your age, skin pigmentation, medical history and overall appearance to determine whether the laser skin resurfacing technique is right for you. There are a number of medical conditions and prior procedures, such as chemical peels and dermabrasion, which may influence the decision process. We have had extensive experience with laser skin resurfacing.

Recovery from Laser Surgery

Patients generally enjoy a short recovery period after laser skin resurfacing. There is a specific regimen of facial creams and ointments that can be used before and after the procedure to help optimize the healing process. Immediately following the procedure, the skin will be red. This will fade within 1-3 weeks. Redness can be easily covered with make-up. Most patients are very presentable with minimal makeup at 3-4 weeks.

Daily use of sunscreen is important and refraining from sun exposure directly after the procedure is recommended. Sun exposure can change the pigmentation and is to be avoided.
