What is tumescent liposuction?

  • This is an outpatient procedure; you can walk in and walk out right after surgery. Patients can usually resume their usual lifestyle 2 to 4 days after undergoing tumescent liposuction.
  • The difference between traditional liposuction and tumescent liposuction is that tumescent lipoplasty uses local anesthesia and there are no stitches involved after surgery.

How is this procedure performed?

  • The localized fat areas will be marked by our Dr. Voss, our Kirkland and Seattle liposuctionexpert.
  • Pre-surgery, a large volume of a saline solution combined with a pain killer is administered (lidocaine) and a drug used to prevent blood loss (epinephrine) is injected to the localized fat area.
  • During surgery, tiny incisions are made in the selected body regions and a suction tube (cannula) is inserted. Excess fat is then removed into a collection system by a qualified Kirkland plastic surgery specialist.
