Ultherapy

Ulthera is the first-ever non-invasive ultrasound device approved for aesthetics and received FDA approval in September 2009. It combines ultrasound imaging with focused ultrasound therapy at defined depths that provide reliable tightening and lifting of skin laxity.  When a surgical correction is unnecessary or unwanted, Ulthera can provide an excellent solution.  Ulthera can be useful to optimize skin tightening after a facelift or assist in extending the result of a surgical procedure.

 The Ulthera system utilizes ultrasound energy that stimulates collagen growth within the deep layers of the skin.  This in turn, increases the matrix of collagen which is responsible for the actual lifting, tightening and firming of the skin.  These results are achieved without disrupting the surface of the skin which makes this treatment a desirable “no downtime procedure.”   The treatment can be performed on all skin types and colors and sensitivities as a single procedure and without the requirement of anesthesia.

As with exercising to build muscle, the building of new collagen to tone, tighten and lift the skin occurs gradually over a 90--day period, even though some may see immediate improvement following their treatment.  It is anticipated that annual or interval maintenance will be desired in order to maintain optimal outcomes.  Results can last for years depending on your natural aging process and your diligence to healthy skin care habits.  The use of sunscreen and topical antioxidants is recommended to prevent destruction of new collagen by UV rays.   Because Ulthera affects the deep layers of tissue, it is compatible with other cosmetic procedures addressing more superficial concerns of the skin.
