Bellafill Injections Bellevue & Kirkland

Millions of dermal filler injections are performed every year. Patients love that there is a non-surgical and safe way to fill in wrinkles, address age related hollowing, and augment facial features. The one major downside for many patients getting dermal fillers is that the results do not last. Most dermal fillers will need refreshed at least once or twice a year, if not more. Due to this, semi-permanent fillers have emerged and continue to be studied. One of the first semi-permanent to permanent fillers to be FDA approved was Bellafill. Northwest Face & Body performs the best Bellafill Bellevue and Kirkland can offer.

Overview: What Is Bellafill?

Bellafill is a type of semi-permanent dermal filler that is comprised of microspheres that the body cannot degrade like with hyaluronic acid fillers. The product itself is roughly 80% bovine collagen and 20% polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. Together, these ingredients stimulate your body’s collagen response to improve results and create a natural look and feel to the treated area. This is similar to other semi-permanent fillers such as Sculptra that also stimulate a collagen response. Except, unlike Sculptra, Bellafill does not absorb or get broken down by the body as quickly. This promotes more dramatic results regardless of the amount of collagen your body produces.

Treatment Areas

Bellafill has two FDA approved uses, but many others continue to be studied and are generally considered safe for off label use. Some of the treatment areas include:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Acne scars (on the cheeks, but can be used elsewhere)
  • Chin
  • Cheeks
  • Under eyes
  • Lips
  • Other wrinkles

The most common uses of Bellafill are for the smile lines (nasolabial folds) and acne scars. It is rare to use it under the eyes or in the lips, though not unheard of. During your consultation, you can discuss whether Bellafill is the right filler based on your needs and goals.

The Injection Process

Injecting Bellafill will look similar to other dermal filler injections. First, your master injector will disinfect the treatment areas with alcohol. After this, your injector may apply topical numbing cream and/or inject lidocaine to keep the process comfortable. There are also vibration devices and other techniques to limit pain and discomfort from the injections. Depending on the numbing technique, it may take anywhere from ten to thirty minutes to fully numb.

Once ready, your master injector or plastic surgeon will slowly and precisely inject the Bellafill. They may also gently massage it in place or move the needle slightly to make sure safe and optimal injections. Immediately after this, they will wipe away any pinpricks of blood and provide you with aftercare instructions. They can also perform other injections at the same time, such as

Aftercare & Results

The aftercare instructions for Bellafill are similar to other similar products. You will want to avoid wearing makeup or applying skincare products the day of your treatment (sunscreen or moisturizer may be all right, but discuss this with your injector). Other instructions may include refraining from exercise, drinking alcohol, and touching the treatment areas for a specified amount of time. If you experience swelling, sleeping with your head elevated may help.

Bruising, swelling, redness, some post-injection tenderness, and itchiness are all normal side effects that tend to pass within two weeks, if not sooner. You can prevent bruising and swelling by not talking blood thinning medications and supplements like ibuprofen, arnica, and prescription blood thinners for a few days before your appointment. If necessary though, this likely will not bar you from undergoing the procedure, it just means you may experience more or worsened bruising.
