Can You Be Too Old For A Facelift?

Facelifts are a facial plastic surgery usually associated with older patients, usually about 55 and up. However, many patients well over 55 will want to look younger and rejuvenate their faces. Often, surgical options are the best for these patients because topical creams and non-surgical treatments can no longer offer ideal results. Some patients worry and ask, “Can you be too old for a facelift?”

Age is a factor in facelift candidacy. However, it is only one factor out of hundreds that Dr. Allegra considers during a facelift consultation. Other factors include your general health, skin condition, previous surgeries, medications you take, and your lifestyle. If a patient is 75, but relatively healthy, it is possible to perform a facelift on patients 75 and even older.

In some cases, facelifts can be made safer using local anesthesia instead of full general anesthesia. Patients remain perfectly comfortable during their procedure, but also get fewer side effects and often recover faster after a facelift with local anesthesia. However, this option is not always available and not right for all patients.
