Dermal filler injections are among the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States with over a million injections performed every year. Within the dermal filler category, hyaluronic acid fillers are by far the most popular due to their good safety profile and versatility. Two filler manufacturers offer hyaluronic acid fillers–Restylane and Juvederm. Both are about equal in usage and most providers offer both. Northwest Face & Body offers the best Juvederm Bellevue and Kirkland provides.
Juvederm is a type of cosmetic injectable known as a dermal filler. It is injected for two main purposes: to fill hollows and wrinkles or to augment areas of the face. Primarily used on the face, dermal fillers like Juvederm are among the top non-surgical procedures for anti-aging. With millions of filler injections performed every year, it is an extremely popular and versatile tool for looking younger and achieving your ideal facial aesthetic.
Within facial fillers, some subcategories refer to what the filler is made out of. Juvederm belongs to the largest and most used classification: hyaluronic acid fillers. This means that Juvederm is lower risk than semi-permanent fillers and can treat more places such as the lips.
The master injectors at Northwest Face & Body are masters at using Juvederm to artfully augment and fill in facial features. Northwest Face & Body provides the best Juvederm Bellevue and Kirkland offers.
Juvederm has many applications across the face. Some of the areas Juvederm can treat include:
Patients can usually treat multiple areas at once. Juvederm also pairs well with neurotoxin treatment such as BOTOX or Dysport. Your master injector will discuss which areas you are a candidate for treatment and the best Juvederm filler for each area.
Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in the body, the largest concentrations of which are in the eyes and joints. Therefore, while rejection or allergy to the filler is possible, it is highly unlikely. Another major benefit of hyaluronic acid filler is that they have a natural reversal agent, hyaluronidase.
When injected, it breaks up the filler. If you experience major side effects or complications or end up unhappy with your new look, there is an easy antidote. This also increases the safety of hyaluronic acid fillers when compared with other types of fillers. If occlusion (the injection of filler into a blood vessel) or an adverse event occurs, it can be immediately addressed in the office.
While it may not seem like an advantage at first, the temporary nature of hyaluronic acid fillers allows patients to stop treatments whenever they want, try out various filler options, and try out different looks each time. This experimentation allows patients to find the exactly right filler option and technique for them.
Juvederm makes a few different fillers that each have a slightly varied consistency and tend to be used in different areas. The main Juvederm offerings are Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, and Juvederm Voluma. Your master injector can discuss each option with you in detail and help determine which is best for the area you are treating and your goals.
The first step for undergoing Juvederm filler injections in Bellevue is to attend a consultation with a master injector. At this appointment, your master injector will ask you about your goals, medical history, history with fillers, and lifestyle. They may also briefly examine the area to evaluate the skin quality, thickness, and other factors that influence the filler choice and process.
If they believe you are a good candidate for your chosen procedure, they will discuss the many fillers you have to choose from. In some cases, you may undergo filler injections the same day. Otherwise, you can schedule your appointment at your convenience or before leaving the office.
First, your master injector will prep the injection sites. This involves disinfecting the areas with alcohol and cleansing them of any makeup or environmental debris. After this, they will likely apply topical numbing cream. This will sit for around ten to twenty minutes. During this time, your injector will prepare the Juvederm.
Your master injector will then begin the filler injections. Depending on the treatment, they may use a needle or cannula. If using a needle, they will start injections immediately. With a cannula, they will make a small entry point for the cannula using a small needle. After inserting the needle or cannula they will slowly inject the filler. They may move the needle within the injection point or inject at multiple sites to add volume evenly for the ideal results.
For most areas, the injections themselves do not take longer than about ten to fifteen minutes. You can have multiple areas treated at the same time. Along with the topical numbing cream, the Juvederm contains a small amount of lidocaine to help ease the filler as it is injected.
In the days following the injections, you may notice some common side effects such as:
For the most part, these side effects should clear up in a week or two. For a day or two following Juvederm injections, your master injector may recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and certain blood-thinning medications and supplements.
Your filler will continue to settle for about two weeks. If you still notice lumps, unevenness, or the result does not fit your goals after two weeks, our master injectors can perform a quick touch up.

Some of the earliest signs of aging affect the area of your eyes. What is the real change that takes place that allows us to look at an individual and immediately judge if they are in their 20’s, 30’s, 50’s, etc? The upper face is the key. We are remarkably adept at forming instant judgments based upon small but significant changes that take place. The overall effect of these changes culminates in an appearance of fatigue, possible angriness, and looking less engaged or involved. There is a loss of the youthful “brightness” of the face.
Most often the major factor common to all of the upper face changes is the relentless tendency for the brow and forehead area to become lax and droopier. This is seen very early in the region of the upper lids where it seems that there is now excess skin. Where the heck did that come from? We do not grow eyelid skin as we become older. Additional changes include a hooded appearance of the upper lids to the sides resulting in a heavy and fatigued appearance. Widening and horizontal lines develop at the upper bridge of the nose which detracts from the elegance of the nose. This causes a “scrunched up” look. We instinctively compensate for the brow heaviness by increasingly using the muscles of the brow. This results in the formation of lines and wrinkles. This is an immediate tip-off of age.
The real cause in most individuals is the descent of the brow, which forms the foundation of the upper lids. This directly results in the seemingly excess lid tissue. The best analogy is that of heavy drapery on a flimsy rod that bends over time and results in the drape bunching up on itself. The solution is probably not to cut off the bottom of the drape! The best solution is to restore the support of the drape to its normal position thus achieving a true restoration. This is the basic concept of the endoscopic brow lift technique.
The endoscopic brow lift in our Kirkland location offers a correction of the problem. This technique involves simply a restoration of the brow tissue to its youthful and normal position. Dr. Allegra does not remove any tissue whatsoever, it is simply repositioned. The procedure involves gaining access to the deepest level under the brow via small incisions just behind the hairline. Next, Dr. Allegra uses an endoscope with an attached video camera. He then performs the surgery while viewing the video monitor. The procedure then involves simply a meticulous freeing of the tissue and releasing it from its attachments. Once accomplished the whole region virtually wants to assume a relaxed and natural position with virtually no tension at all. The tissue is then simply secured in this position achieving an elegant rejuvenation.
The endoscopic brow lift is a gentle procedure involving only a release of tissue. This generally leads to an excellent and rapid recovery. As the incisions are all behind the hairline, there are no visible sutures or incisions. You can wash and style your hair the next day. Some unavoidable bruising will occur in the area of the eyes but rapidly resolves. There is some minor swelling in the “scowl” area between the eyebrows as this is where the muscles causing these angry and deep lines are weakened.
One is generally socially presentable in 5-7 days with perhaps a modest cover-up of mild bruising. At the 10-14 day mark, there are only trivial residual changes, rapidly resolving, that are easy to cover if needed. There is remarkably little if any pain with this technique and one in fact is able to resume normal activities almost immediately. Most patients require no medication at all. The incisions are so rapid and effective in healing that even with detailed inspection by a hairdresser or myself they often cannot be found after 1-2 months.
The endoscopic brow lift results in a remarkably effective and pleasing rejuvenation of the upper face. This procedure results in a remarkable satisfaction rate with patients feeling satisfied with how it looks. It is a procedure that will not result in comments such as “what have you had done?” but rather in “you look great”. One simply cannot see any “surgical” signs. Because of the remarkably solid and stable healing of this area, it is essentially a permanent solution. We have patients who are seen more than 20 years after their brow lift who are virtually perfect and look great!
The endoscopic brow lift offers a great solution for rejuvenation of the upper face for both men and women. This is performed at almost any age, even in one’s twenties if their appearance justifies it as there are genetic factors that may create a great deal of heaviness at an early age. As this is a very low stress procedure it may even be suitable for someone in their late 80’s. In men, this offers a remarkable improvement without the procedure looking obvious to others. It is possible to offer this procedure even if there is significant balding as the incisions heal so well and are hard to find. In short, this is often a truly ideal and satisfying procedure.
Dr. Allegra often finds that patients may benefit from more than one facial plastic surgery, such as a brow lift and a facelift. This can lead to better immediate and long term results. Most patients are candidates for a combined procedure and Dr. Allegra can determine if you may benefit from a combination of customized facial plastic surgeries. Examples of procedures you may have performed at the same time as you brow lift can include:
